Great Printer! November 15, 2009 C. Huddleston 75 out of 77 found this review helpful
I purchased this printer after a lot of research here on Amazon and elsewhere. This printer is replacing an old Epson Stylus Photo 780 that I've had for years. I was really unhappy with the Epson because the ink heads clogged up constantly. I also wanted the newest printer possible, since I've had problems with other devices not updating their drivers, so this printer fit the bill.
The Canon printer has been wonderful for me so far. It was easy to set up and install and worked right away. I'm using Snow Leopard on a Mac, so I had to download the actual driver from Canon's web site, but this is easy to do and pretty self-explanatory.
I love that the printer is all enclosed. The regular paper sits in a tray at the bottom, and everything can be closed up so that dust doesn't get into it. Photo paper is loaded at the rear.
This printer has individual ink cartridges, a plus in my opinion.
I am using it lightly (10-15 regular color pages, 1-2 photos per week) so I have not dented the supply level on the ink cartridges, and can't really comment on how fast the ink runs out. The print quality is pretty good for the regular paper, and very good for photos. I was very impressed with the photos that I printed, they were sharp and the color was great.
The software drivers are adequate and not too confusing. I found this printer very easy to use and of good quality. I'm very happy with it, and it's miles better than my old Epson.
Fantastic, affordable printer November 10, 2009 D. Wakley (Arizona, USA) 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
My old Canon i960 was dying, and it was time to purchase a new printer. After loads of research, I chose the Pixma ip4700...and it completely lived up to the high expectations I have for Canon photo printers. Prints are crisp and colors are fantastic. Plus, technology has improved so much since I last purchased a printer--dpi is better, and print speed is much, much faster than my old i960. For around $100, you can't go wrong. People are always amazed when they see prints I make on Canon printers...the quality rivals and possible even surpasses print labs.
Great Printer worth twice the price January 27, 2010 Lloyd C. Johnson 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I really like this printer, cost aside, it does an excellent job with both photos and text. A couple of caveats, however. If you use it primarily for photo printing, you will be well advised to spend some time calibrating your monitor so that what you see on screen matches what you get with printing. No big deal as most photo editing programs have some sort of monitor calbration utility. It is noisy and not the fastest printer on the block.
Set up was simple taking less than half an hour. Directions are fairly complete and lucid. The quality of the output rivals what you would expect in a much more expensive printer and what you get from a photo lab. Once calibrated to match the monitor the color rendition is excellent and definition is great. But, it does help to use a premium paper. It has a small footprint so it fits nicely almost anywhere space is tight, and I like the fact that it isn't covered with needless "chrome".
I would recommend this printer to users who only print the occassional photo on up to a serious amature. By the way, it des an outstanding job with text as well.
This is an excellent printer March 20, 2010 GreenBean (South Dakota) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
This printer is wonderful! I bought it to replace a great Canon i860-series printer that I had for many years. My goal with printer shopping was to get something that would do a superb job with photos, and the Pixma iP4700 does that. Colors are rich (and you can select from vivid, normal, light and dark to suit your taste), it prints quickly, and with individual color ink cartridges (magenta, yellow, cyan, black) the ink usage seems perfectly reasonable to me. You only need to replace what you use. I recently used the printer to produce 75 color-saturated wedding invitations with original artwork, and they look great -- and the yellow and cyan cartridges (used to produce a nice vivid green) held more than enough ink for the job. Text printing is also excellent. I've used different papers, from plain paper to brochure paper to textured resume paper, and everything looks great. I can't think of what more a person could possibly get without spending a lot more money. Installation was easy. My computer no longer reads disks, so before I bought the printer I went to the Canon website to see if the drivers and software were available for download. Yes! In response to my e-mail, Canon gave me step-by-step instructions. I would recommend this printer to anyone who wants a high-quality printer for photos, art, and text documents.
Canon Pixma iP4700 is a winner November 23, 2009 Robert N. Renner Jr. (Palm Springs, CA) 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
Looking for a printer that just prints, without scanners, faxes or other unnecessary and expensive distractions, I found this jewel. Excellent photos, very good text at a reasonable price and with reasonably low cost of operation.
